چکیده

A numerical model is developed to simulate fully nonlinear transient waves in a semiinfinite, two-dimensional wave tank. A mixed Eulerian-Lagrangian formulation is adopted and a high-order boundary element method is used to solve for the fluid motion at each time step. Input wave characteristics are specified at the upstream boundary of the computational domain using an appropriate wave theory. At the downstream boundary, a damping region is used in conjunction with a radiation condition to prevent wave reflections back into the computational domain. The convergence characteristics of the numerical model are studied and the numerical results are validated through a comparison with previous published data. @DOI: 10.1115/1.1365117#

Three Dimensional Numerical Simulation of Tsunami Generation and Propagation Due to Makran Subduction and run-up on Chabahar Bay and Makran Coasts

Makran subduction located at the northwest of the Indian Ocean nearby the southern coast of Iran and Pakistan. Makran subduction is the source of tsunamis that threaten southern coast of Iran. In this article, generation and propagation of 1945’s tsunami initiated by Makran subduction is simulated. For the three dimensional generation of the wave, advanced algorithm of Okada is adopted. The CFD...

Simulation of Wave Overtopping of Maritime Structures in a Numerical Wave Flume

A numerical wave flume based on the particle finite element method PFEM is applied to simulate wave overtopping for impermeable maritime structures. An assessment of the performance and robustness of the numerical wave flume is carried out for two different cases comparing numerical results with experimental data. In the first case, a well-defined benchmark test of a simple low-crested structur...

Steep. Short-Crested Waves and Related Phenomena

Steep, short-crested waves, as well as a large variety of three-dimensional propagating wave patterns have been created in laboratory, utilizing a plunging half-cone. Monochromatic waves, over a range of frequencies and amplitudes through breaking and including soliton wave groups near resonance, have been observed and studied in a small wave flume. This monochromatic wavemaker creates complex ...

Torsional wave propagation in 1D and two dimensional functionally graded rod

In this study, torsional wave propagation is investigated in a rod that are made of one and two dimensional functionally graded material. Firstly, the governing equations of the wave propagation in the functionally graded cylinder derived in polar coordinate. Secondly, finite difference method is used to discretize the equations. The Von Neumann stability approach is used to obtain the time ste...
